THE AROMA OF
GOURMET COFFEE
By Crystal Vazanellis, Owner and Barista
My first recollection of coffee was at the age of
five in our family kitchen.
Yaya (that's Greek for grandma) would be up before
dawn percolating that first pot of freshly ground
coffee purchased from her favorite Greek specialty
food shop in Astoria, New York. She seemed to gather
her thoughts for the day at that hour. The house was
still - before the hustle & bustle of daily routines
began. It was that "aroma" of freshly perked
coffee - clear, compelling, warm and wonderful - penetrating
throughout the house, that still flashes across my
memory every time I walk into "Classy Coffee".
It's no wonder all the new coffee places in town haven't
dampened our spirits.
As new owners (Crystal and Theo Vazanellis) of this
well-known establishment, we promise to make all our
customers feel like they're back in grandma's kitchen.
We know the aroma of fresh ground gourmet coffee beans,
exotic spicy teas, great cocktails, steaming hot chocolates and the wonderful
taste of freshly baked desserts (Yaya's secret recipes
as well as "Classy" favorites) and our menu
created daily by Chef Anton - will keep you coming
back, time after time, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Come to "Classy" soon. We want you to meet
the whole family. You'll be happy to see the uplifting
changes. Chef Anton has added wonderful variety to our menu. YaYa would be proud of her great-grandson.
One more thing - Yaya wasn't alone on those early
mornings. She made two cups of coffee. One black with
a half teaspoon of sugar for herself and a second
cup with milk and sugar for our Chihuahua named Coco.
The two were inseparable!
